| Class D extinguishers are ideal for large combustible metal fires. This Amerex model 570 extinguisher contains a special blended sodium chloride (NaCl) based dry powder extinguishing agent. Heat from the fire causes the agent to cake and form a crust, excluding air and dissipating heat from the burning metal. Metal fires involving magnesium alloys, uranium and powdered aluminum can be controlled and extinguished with this unique extinguisher. Lithium fires require the model 571 copper-powder extinguisher (item #09592; see below). The Amerex "soft flow" extension applicator (included) is particularly suited for fighting Class D fires. It keeps the operator's hands away from the extreme heat and prevents inhalation of toxic fumes caused by burning material. The easily controlled, even discharge provides a non-dispersing application of either agent. The applicator may be quickly detached to provide a straight stream of chemical where greater range, a narrow discharge pattern or a lobbing effect is required. The steel cylinder is coated with corrosion-resistant yellow paint. F.M. listed (ANSI/UL 1099/711). Previous customers have recommended using the 09800 Heavy Duty Dolly Cart with this extinguisher.
