Lockout registers are a crucial part of any lockout/tagout program. This set includes two books, an Energy Isolation Record and an Equipment Issue/Return Record. Each department uses a register to:
- Store procedures
- Record which devices can be used by which employee
- Record crucial information about each machine (location, authorized employees, recommended devices).
Group lockout procedures mandated under 29 CFR 1910.147, the OSHA Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) Standard, ensure that each authorized employee has control over his/her own protection and verify that the equipment has been properly de-energized. As part of these requirements, tags and lockout devices inform other persons that the employee is working on the equipment, and as long as the device remains attached, the authorized person in charge of the group lockout knows that the work has not been completed and that it is not safe to reenergize the equipment.
