These verification of service collars (also known as "maintenance and recharge service collars" under recent NFPA changes) meet the NFPA 10 standard for portable fire extinguishers. They are used to indicate the date of the last disassembly of the extinguisher (for servicing, hydrostatic testing or other maintenance) and can only be installed with the valve assembly removed. These collars have twelve months and either two or four years which can be punched to indicate the date of last service (see Table below). Sold by the package of single size only.
Four different sizes are available:
|Inner Diameter||1-3/8" (3.5 cm)||1-3/4" (4.45 cm)||2-1/8" (5.40 cm)||3-1/16" (7.78 cm)|
|# of years||2||2||4||4|
|# per package||100||100||50||50|
These collars are not limited to use on portable fire extinguishers. Paragraph 7.6 of the 2017 Edition of NFPA 17A requires that any cylinder that is internally examined, including recharging or hydrostatic testing, is required to have a service collar installed. Extinguishers that can be recharged without removing the valve, such as Halon 1211 and CO2 do not require a collar unless the valve is removed during servicing. Cartridge-operated extinguishers do not need service collars. Class K and foam extinguishers do not need a collar when first placed in service but do once they are used and recharged or reach their 5-year hydrostatic test interval.
Collars imprinted with the name of the service company are required in many jurisdictions. We can supply custom imprints upon request subject to modest minimum order requirements. The lead time is usually 2-4 weeks. Please contact us for custom needs.
NOTE: Collars ordered during the beginning of a calendar year may start their annual numbering with the prior year depending on stock availability. If this is a show-stopper for you and you want to get collars with the current year as the starting year, please contact us before ordering.
