Product Description
The environmentally-mindful ANSULITE AFC-3MS Concentrate formulation contains short-chain, C-6 fluorochemicals manufactured using a telomer-based process. The telomer process produces no PFOS (perfluorooctanesulfonic acid), and these C-6 materials do not breakdown to yield PFOA (perfluorooctanoic acid), compounds which are of recent environmental concern. This product meets the latest US DoD military specification (Mil-spec) MIL-F-24385F: Fire Extinguishing Agent, Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF) Liquid Concentrate, for Fresh and Sea Water.
AFC-3MS 3% AFFF Concentrate is intended for use on Class B hydrocarbon fuel fires having low water solubility, such as crude oils, gasolines, diesel fuels, and aviation fuels. It is not suitable for use on polar fuels having appreciable water solubility, such as methyl and ethyl alcohol, acetone, and methyl ethyl ketone. The concentrate has excellent wetting properties that can effectively combat Class A fires as well. It may also be used in conjunction with dry chemical agents to provide even greater fire suppression performance. Typical applications include military and civilian aircraft facilities, crash fire rescue (per US DOT FAA AC No. 150/5210-6D), on-board marine/naval fire suppression systems, and storage tanks.
This product is available in UL-compliant commercial packaging as well as MIL-F-24385F specified packaging for direct government acquisition (packaging requirements for specific contract identification is the responsibility of the contract holder). The commercial version, AFC-3MS-C, is Ansul part # 442710 and the government packaged version, AFC-3MS, is Ansul part # 442709. Full performance and technical specifications are available in the Ansul data sheet for this product. The Safety Data Sheet is also available.
For Ansul's regular 3% AFFF concentrate, see item # 50005.
Statement on the use of perfluoroalkyl-containing firefighting foams
California has banned most firefighting aqueous film-forming foams (AFFF) that contain perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) effective January 1, 2022. We will no longer sell this product to users or purchasers in California with the exception of US Government agencies. Ansul now offers a non-fluorinated foam product for Class B fires which is available as item # 50071. Ansul is continuously revamping its firefighting foam product line and as additional non-fluorinated alternatives become available we will offer them for sale.
Safety Emporium is unable to offer advice on the application, use, environmental fate, or health effects of these materials and offers them in good faith given the need within the firefighting community and given the manufacturer's implied warranty of merchantability. All potential purchasers should consult pertinent local, state, federal, and international regulations regarding PFAS-containing products and seek out emerging health and environmental data and guidance before choosing to purchase or use this product per the manufacturer's recommendations.
