This modified design Dean-Stark trap allows more efficient cooling and separation of azeotropes during distillation. Dean-Stark traps are a clever distillation design that can determine the moisture content of materials. As the azeotropic mixture of water and solvent co-distills, it separates into two immiscible layers with the denser water layer settling at the bottom of the graduated receiver. The water can be tapped off as needed through a 2 mm PTFE stopcock. For a classic design without the stopcock, see item # CG-1258.
This receiver has a capacity of 10 mL and is graduated with subdivisions of 0.1 from 0 to 2 mL, and 0.2 from 2 to 10 mL. The unit is available with your choice of 14/20 or 24/40 joints. The dimensions of the former are approximately 275 mm h x 75 mm wide and the latter 290 mm h x 105 mm wide.
